The week

Parkview Health Disables Patient Portal

Parkview Health suspends MyChart access after suspicious activity; containment and monitoring on deck.

Parkview Health disabled its network and took the MyChart patient portal and doctor search offline after suspicious activity, disrupting appointment and urgent-care access across two states (Indiana and Ohio). Patients were directed to phone and walk-in services while the health system investigates and restores services.

Context

Operationally critical services are being taken offline as a containment step; organizations running patient portals, VPN gateways, and PKI-dependent services face immediate availability and trust risks. Health systems, SaaS providers, and enterprises that manage their own VPN or certificate issuance are in the highest blast radius for service disruption and credential theft.

The move

5 things to do today

  1. Isolate and triage impacted systems: follow Parkview incident handling—disconnect affected segments, preserve logs, and escalate IR for systems providing patient-facing services (phones, MyChart backends, scheduling databases).
  2. Hunt for PAN-OS exploitation indicators and rotate credentials: follow Unit 42 IOC and incident-response guidance for CVE-2026-0257, review GlobalProtect session logs, disable or restrict external VPN access where feasible, and rotate VPN service credentials and certificates.
  3. Apply PHP vendor fixes and deploy temporary WAF rules: schedule and install vendor PHP updates for CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619; while applying fixes, deploy WAF rules to block multipart/form-data, cap request body sizes, and rate-limit suspicious endpoints as described by AWS.
  4. Conduct immediate PKI inventory and revocation verification: identify all systems trusting eMudhra intermediates, verify revocation status for the eight revoked intermediates, rebuild or replace pinned bundles, and prepare trust-store updates for non-browser runtimes.
  5. Identify and contain Keycloak 26.7.2 instances: locate Keycloak 26.7.2 deployments, isolate exposed admin or public endpoints, and apply mitigations or roll forward to a non‑vulnerable build per vendor advisories while investigation proceeds.

Parkview Health Disables Network and Patient Portal

Network taken offline · MyChart and doctor search unavailable · Operations redirected to phone and walk-in

Parkview Health shut down network services and disabled its MyChart patient portal after detecting suspicious activity, causing immediate loss of online appointment and doctor-search capability across facilities in Indiana and Ohio. The outage affects patient access and front-line scheduling systems while investigations continue.

Unit 42 Reports Active Exploitation of PAN‑OS VPN Flaw

Active exploitation · GlobalProtect access and MFA bypass reported · Cross‑sector impact noted

Unit 42 documents active exploitation of PAN-OS CVE-2026-0257 that allows remote access via GlobalProtect and can bypass MFA, creating VPN footholds and cross-organization lateral risk. The brief provides incident-response indicators and mitigation steps for affected PAN-OS appliances.

Unit 42 Details eMudhra Intermediate CA Private Key Compromise

Eight compromised intermediates · Major vendor revocations applied · TLS MitM risk

Unit 42 reports attackers derived private keys from eight eMudhra intermediate CAs due to insufficient randomness, enabling certificate forgery and MitM attacks; vendors have revoked the affected intermediates. The advisory calls for comprehensive PKI audits, emergency reissuance planning, and trust-store updates to eliminate lingering trust of compromised keys.

AWS Publishes WAF Mitigations for PHP2SHELL

Temporary WAF rules · Multipart/form-data blocking · Body-size caps and rate limits

AWS Security Blog provides WAF configurations to reduce exposure to PHP2Shell RCEs (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619) as an interim measure, including blocking multipart/form-data, capping request body size, and rate-limiting. The guidance reiterates that WAFs reduce risk during patch windows but do not replace applying PHP vendor fixes.
